What is a semi-submarine?

What is a semi-submarine?

Think of a semi-submarine as a boat with a room under the water line. You sit in that underwater deck and look out through large windows at coral and fish, but the boat itself never dives. For children, families and anyone who prefers not to swim, it is the easiest way to see a reef. Makadi Bay, known for clear water and coral reefs close to the shore, is a natural place to try it.

Panorama and Nefertari: right in Makadi Bay

Panorama and Nefertari: right in Makadi Bay

Two of these trips start in Makadi Bay itself. The Panorama semi-submarine has an air-conditioned underwater deck with big panoramic windows, and no swimwear is needed. The Nefertari is a pharaonic-themed boat with an underwater observation deck, photos in ancient Egyptian costumes, a guided snorkeling stop and a 3-course meal with seafood or chicken. For both, we pick you up at your hotel and bring you back.

The other two trips leave from the marina in Hurghada, about 30 km north, with transfers from your Makadi Bay hotel included. The Sea Scope semi-submarine looks at the reefs along the Hurghada coast through panoramic windows and then stops for snorkeling in clear water. The private glass bottom boat takes up to 8 people for 3 hours, with fish under the glass floor and a snorkeling stop.
